Chinese Cresteds - Sires & Dams
In an ongoing search to breed "the best to the best", Bellissima Farms turns a critical eye to each stud/dam selected to represent our breeding program. No one "perfect" stud or dam exists, nor can a solitary stud enhance the assets of every single dam - or vice versa.
As for our Cresteds, we are not a canine show ranch, therefore most of our dogs are not ribboned (unless purchased w/ those awards). However, many evolve from championship stock.
Exhibition requires a kind of dedication that only the special few can manage, as it is very difficult and time consuming.
Failure to exhibit is neither good or bad. There are superior dogs both in/out of the show arena, just the way there are beautiful females in/out of the Miss America pagent.
Exhibition is not everybody's cup of tea. Some owners just like to snuggle - and that, in itself, is a big enough blue ribbon.
The breeding of fine quality Chinese Cresteds is a solitary division in our wide corporate structure where activities must be carefully chosen. While we have not entirely written out the opportunity to exhibit, at this time, we are not as interested in the pursuit of ribbons - and would prefer to re-direct the energy to superior breeding.
Each litter is evaluated for quality and the finer sires/dams remain in the program. A global evaluation process is assessed - not only with quality conformation, skin/teeth, eyes, smooth derma, but most importantly - temperament. A beautiful dog with a rotten temperament is difficult to exhibit - or hug. Willingness to please the owner and easy assimilation into a new environment is #1 on the Breeding Wish List.
Our studs/dams are - routinely retired at an early age to reduce physical stress and allow those of greater quality to be introduced.
Ethical breeders strive to do better with each breeding.
Knowledgable breeders know not every "winner" is able to genetically reproduce equal or better, therefore each litter should be evaluated on its' own merit. Not all studs/dams cross well. What works on one cross may not be as successful with another.
Breeders with limited stock do not always have the luxury of culling the herd. Nor do they have the ability to keep more than one stud due to space, time and labor. In some considerations, size DOES matter.
For many years, Bellissima Farms has graciously hosted equine/canine breedings. Our respected, long time vets are the best of the best - specializing in reproduction - and candor.
On a reasonable time table, new litters are exposed to a variety of stimuli: noise, odors, other animals, climate, travel, etc. A heavily experienced pup tends to be more well-rounded as an adult & is more easily adaptable to change.
