BELLISSIMA FARMS --

History & Philosophy

The history of the Peruvian Horse dates back to the Spanish
Conquest of the New World -- history books often referring to the mount
as the "Horse of the Conquistadors".

Hundreds of years of selective planning cultivated a breed like no other -
a horse that can be both  companion & pleasure ride.  While the original
goal was to propagate a creature that served as comfortable transport over
long, tedious miles, the crusade evolved into the development of a an
unbelievably smooth ride.

Paso are known for "brio" -- a delicious combination of energy, enthusiasm,
strength & willingness to perform.

Luis Trujillo - trainer extraordinaire (note:  all 4 legs of horse are airborne)

The horse boasts a natural gait that conveys minimal movement to the rider.  Simultaneously,  a flashy front leg action is produced  -  arching high ....    extending forward....  while concurrently bowing to the side - awesome to behold!

No manufactured devices or training equipment is used to motivate the PP to move w/ their miraculous
4-beat-hoof-fall.  The pure, natural movement, combined w/ graceful front leg action, propels the horse forward in an effortless stride.

Powerful conformation, faultless leg motion & impressive stamina enables the horse to negotiate challenging trials
while delivering the least amount of vertical back movement to the rider -- thus dispensing the "smoothest ride on earth".......

Wise, compliant & eager to please, the Paso has retained the arrogance of its' imperious ancestors ....
& still, to this day, continues to drive forward, moving "like a Conqueror"!

Balanced Diet & Health Maintenance

BFII horses are maintained primarily on grass hay w/ supplements given in accordance w/ requirements per animal, based on age, function, climate & activity.

Nutritional principals are studied, digestive management is addressed, in addition to  parasite control, dental care & bi-annual innoculations.

Breeding

Bellissima Farms honors the classic traditions of many of the superior breeders of yesteryear by crossing the finest bloodlines in history.  Aiming to maximize strength, tractable personality & smooth gait, our dedication to the breed promises strong, well balanced horses w/ appealing beauty.

BFII facilities host multiple foaling stalls, each equipped w/ closed circuit cameras.  Foal birthing is monitoring - w/ each baby receiving a complete vet check & colostrum evaluation within 24 hrs. of birth.

Training & Tack

Traditional methods intertwined w/ plain old horse sense are used to develop the horse's inborn ability.  Manufactured training devices used to enhance, alter or modify gait are not used on the Peruvian horse.  Improvements are made by continuing education.
Training is finished w/ traditional Peruvian & select Western tack.   Australian & English saddles are also used on trail & in various exhibition classes.
